Cochlear Implant Video
Enjoy!
*** Correction: Thanks to Chris the first commenter below, it was pointed out that Sam isn't a Gallaudet professor though Josh is at GU. So, to avoid further confusion, I renamed this title and the link more appropriately.
*** One more thing I want to point out is that cochlear implants, though they do really amazing things, they don't work miracles as this video might imply. Learning to comprehend speech takes work, a lot of work, and one factor that plays into how fast the person goes up the learning curve is auditory memory. The video happened to gloss over that one little detail. Sam, in the video, could already understand 25% before getting a CI, so it all depends on where he starts at. It's possible for all CI recipients to achieve a full understanding of speech, it only depends on where the person starts and how much time he puts into it. After all, I started at 0% and I'm definitely not expecting to get to 100% in six months or even a year. Two years? Maybe, but I sure will try!
