A deaf person's perspective on sound and hearing: Nabeel was born with a hearing loss near Washington, DC. He grew up there, and relocated to Houston in 2008. At age 30, he got a cochlear implant and writes about what it is like to hear.

A Badly Needed Update

Sorry, my loyal readers, I have been AWOL from my blog but rest assured I didn't abandon it. Lots of things going on in my life right now, so I haven't been thinking about my cochlear implant or how I'm progressing. I'm just using it as it is literally a part of me now. In fact, I think my lipreading skills have atrophied a bit as I've grown to depend partially on my new sense of hearing.

In the past few weeks, the following has happened:

1) I got a new laptop. The Macbook Pro - very sleek and fast:

2) Have gone surfing twice in the past 2-3 weeks. Yes, the Gulf Coast in Texas has plenty of surf. I didn't bring a camera to the beach so I'm going to swipe a couple of pics off the web. The top pic is Surfside Beach, and the bottom pic is of Matagorda - one of the best surf spots in Texas (the waves were at least six to seven feet and totally pounding the day I was there):

3) Last, but not least... my new niece, Raya, has entered our world on October 30, 2009. I am so excited to be a proud uncle, and looking forward to meeting her when I visit DC over the Holidays in December.

Cute, ain't she??
